Dr. Timo Klein is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Sport Science at University of Rostock, where he leads the Department of Movement Science. As an exercise physiologist, his research focuses on understanding the protective effects of physical exercise on the human brain across healthy ageing and disease, in particular the vasculature of the brain. This includes the effect of exercise training on cerebrovascular adaptation, acute cerebrovascular responses to different types of exercise modes, isolated cerebrovascular function assessments and extreme environments. During his Joint-PhD at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia and the German Sport University Cologne he specialised on the cerebrovascular control in healthy and diseased cohorts. As a research fellow at the German Sport University Cologne he was involved in projects assessing the effects of extreme environments on brain function and electro-cortical measures, such as parabolic flights and short- and long-term isolation and confinement, where he cooperated with the German Space agency (DLR), European Space Agency (ESA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
